As an employee-centric brand, we strive to create benefits that make families’ lives easier. We believe that having our young children on site in our not-for-profit daycare center, not only simplifies things for parents, but it also enables families to bond during the day. This includes providing outdoor play areas and highchairs in our café so parents can eat breakfast and lunch with their kids.
The daycare, called Lulu’s Child Enrichment Center, is one of our company’s proudest accomplishments – and the first of its kind in our industry. Not only do we provide our employees and local community members with a safe, friendly and fun home away from home for their children, our daycare has also received N.C.’s prestigious five-star rating.
Every activity – from the toys the children play with, to learning their ABCs and important social skills – is individually tailored to each age group. For example, hands-on learning teaches them healthy eating and exercise habits by harvesting vegetables from the daycare’s own garden and picking plums from the fruit trees that line our street. By the time the children leave for Kindergarten, they are prepared and eager to learn.
Hundreds of children have graduated from our daycare program since it opened. Every year on graduation day, our founders personally hand a diploma to each child, who joins them on stage, clad in a miniature cap and gown. Many of our commencement speakers have been well-known figures, including Bev Perdue, the first female governor of North Carolina, and U.S. Senator Kay Hagan.
Since 2000, we have offered another incentive: a college scholarship program that’s open to our employees’ children. We also hold a ceremony for scholarship recipients, many of which are the first in their family to attend college.
In addition to our child enrichment center and annual college scholarship program, we offer an onsite health-conscious gourmet café run by the company’s formally trained chef, a physical fitness center, a wellness clinic and a free annual health fair.
